Tar Heel Girls State
Monday: Orange City was the city of the day. The citizens heard from the 2007 THGS Governor-Taylor James, Dayna Garland and Sarah Whittenton, former Girls Nation Senators. They learned proper flag etiquette. The city pictures and THGS group pictures were made. City officials were elected, legislature chambers were set up and political parties met to begin setting up the platforms. Many girls visited the Tar Heel Girls State store after the meetings to purchase new shirts, blankets, and other memorabilia.
Tuesday: Yellow City was the city of the morning and Green City closed the day. The citizens met in their cities, legislative houses and political parties. They began to pass bills, discuss platforms for the parties and make decisions about running for offices. The guest speaker was from Catawba and talked about college life. Every citizen received a free Catawba T-shirt.

Wednesday: Today was Pink and Purple City Day. Janet Ward Black was our guest speaker, The citizens also attended workshops in applying for scholarships and interviewing. This will be very uesful tomorrow when they talk to college admission staffs. Tonight was spent in their political parties completing their platforms and electing their candidates for the state offices.
