THGS Dress Code

Tar Heel Girls State has a dress code for All MEETINGS outside the dorm.

  1. Two polo shirts with the Tar Heel State emblem are provided (one red, one blue). Meetings Monday through Saturday require the Girls State shirt to be worn with solid black, khaki or navy skirts (NO MINIS) or full length pants in (NO capris, gauchos, blue jeans or walking shorts).

  2. Meetings on Sunday require a skirt, dress or full length pants with an appropriate blouse.

  3. Proper undergarments must be worn.

  4. NO  tube-tops, no shoulder straps less than one inch and undergarment straps should not show, no backless dresses (except for the reception Friday night), no midriffs should show, no shorts or skorts.

  5. NO sweatshirts may be worn during sessions. You may want to bring a light sweater or dress jacket since some rooms may be chilly.

  6. Dresses and skirts can be no shorter that 4" above the knee.
  7. Proper, comfortable shoes are required. NO SANDALS, ATHLETIC SHOES  FLIP FLOPS OR RAINBOWS will be allowed in meetings. Do make sure your shoes are comfortable as you will be walking a great deal.
  8. A white dress (or skirt and blouse) and white shoes are needed if your plan to serve on a flag honor guard or as a speaker escort.
  9. Informal dress is fine around the dorm, during free time and in the dining hall. You may want to pack a swimsuit for free time at the pool.
  10. A long or dressy dress is appropriate for the inaugural reception on Friday evening. Bring your PROM or Sunday dress.
